My Favorite Disney Ride - Or 3 -- And A Show

First off, this isn't about my favorite Disney ride. That turned out to be too hard to make up my mind about. Then I was going to talk about two of my favorite rides. Then I realized that wasn't satisfying either. So my favorite Disney ride has turned into 3 rides and a show and I actually had to leave a bunch of fine things out to stop there.

You need first to understand that I never much liked Disney World when I first went there back just after EPCOT opened. I swore I'd never return. It was hot and tedious and I didn't much enjoy the torrential afternoon downpour. I did like Space Mountain when I finally managed to survive the wait but that wasn't enough to convince me to go back. Of course, I did, almost 20 years later with 2 new very excited children and a different attitude. This time the weather was wonderful (I recommend a January visit unless you're addicted to watersports). The lines were shorter and with the addition of the Disney-MGM and Animal Kingdom theme parks, there was even more to see and do.

At the Magic Kingdom the two big time major rides are usually considered to be Splash Mountain and Space Mountain. Both are well worth doing if you don't mind getting a little soggy on one and jerked around a lot in the dark on the other. Space Mountain in TomorrowLand is still my favorite. Children must be 44 inches (113 cm) or taller to ride. It is on the FastPass system if you're there during a busy period. Part of the added thrill of this ride is the darkness. Magic Kingdom also has the renowned Pirates of the Caribbean. Oddly enough I think the Haunted Mansion is second on my list here. As a ride, it's fairly mild, but it is fascinating and different. It's also on the FastPass system.

Over at Disney-MGM Studios are one more favorite Disney ride and a favorite Disney show. The overall atmosphere and the quality of all the attractions here is fantastic. Still, my favorite is the Tower of Terror. Continuing, in a way, the odd attraction of the Haunted Mansion, the Tower of Terror takes it to a new level entirely. It's brilliantly done and now each ride is unique, with a (hopefully unhaunted) computer randomizing the ups and downs. If you want to, you can find out more about it before you ride, but I'd suggest not doing that. Be surprised/terrified and enjoy every minute.

Finally. Do not miss Muppet Vision 3D. So it's cute, so what, don't you like cute? It's also funny and the effects are astonishing too. Even the line is fun and it has one of the best pre-show set-ups around. If you're observant you'll be able to pick up some of the really clever visual jokes - if you remember your Disney history. That's it for my favorite Disney ride. Or rides. Each time you go something new will impress you and stick in your mind and at least some of your long time favorites will continue to absorb you.
